Make a board public

GuideUpdated

On this page

A public board is a read-only copy of a board under its own link. Clients, partners, or your users can follow the progress without changing anything. Every plan can have as many public boards as you need. Only board managers can make a board public.

Turn on public access

Public access of the Website Relaunch board
  1. Open the board and choose the share button in the header (box 1). It reads Restricted or Public.
  2. Turn on Public access (box 2).
  3. Kanroo asks you to confirm (see below). After that, copy the public link (box 3) and send it.
Kanroo asks before a board becomes public

The confirmation (box 1) lists what visitors can see. Read it once, then confirm.

What visitors see

  • The lists and tasks, with descriptions, checklists, labels, due dates, and attachments: images show, other files show by name only.
  • Comments and the task history of your members, with their display names and avatars. Email addresses never show.
  • The same views and filters as you have: board, swimlanes, calendar, and table.
  • A Submit request button, if the board has a primary form. See Public submissions on a public board.

Visitors never see tasks from forms that nobody has published yet, tasks from email, or replies by email.

Turn it off

Switch Public access off again. The link stops working at once; there is no confirmation for this direction.

Good to know

  • Search engines are told not to index public pages, and Kanroo lists no public boards anywhere.
  • Board links are easy to guess, so a public board is not secret. For a secret, use a wiki page with a password-protected link.
  • Archiving the board pauses the public link. Restoring it makes the link work again.
