Use case: public sector and non-profits
Boards and a wiki you can host, read and explain.
Workspace data hosted and processed in the EU, an open-source core you can run on your own servers, and an interface designed for keyboard and screen-reader use.
- Schools and universities
- Municipalities
- Associations, foundations and NGOs
The problemYou must say where your data is stored, and who processes it.
Workspace data hosted and processed in the EU.
Kanroo Cloud runs on servers in Germany. Files are stored in the Netherlands, and email leaves from France. The data processing agreement names two sub-processors, both European.
- Read the data processing agreement and its sub-processor list before you start.
- 14 days’ notice by email before a sub-processor changes, with a right to object.
- No CDN and no third-party resources in the app.
- Both sub-processors are EU companies without a US parent. Why that matters under the CLOUD Act.
The problemSome data must stay on your own servers.
Run the open-source core yourself.
The core of Kanroo is open source under AGPL-3.0. Run it on your own servers with Docker Compose and PostgreSQL, both among our Open Source Friends, without plan limits.
- Sign-in works with codes sent by email, so you need an SMTP server.
- Files on the local disk or in any S3-compatible storage.
- Export boards as JSON or CSV and wiki spaces as Markdown.
- Single sign-on, live updates, webhooks and the audit log need the Enterprise Edition when you self-host.
The problemEveryone on the team must be able to use the tool, also without a mouse.
Designed for keyboard and screen-reader use.
Core workflows work with the keyboard. Menus move tasks without drag and drop, focus is always visible, and color never carries meaning alone.
- Keyboard shortcuts for boards, tasks and the wiki. Shift? lists them all.
- Names for screen readers on buttons and controls.
- Touch targets of at least 44 × 44 pixels.
- Animations follow the reduced-motion setting of your system.
There has been no external accessibility audit yet.
Report a barrierThe problemYou must know where your data goes, also to AI services.
No built-in AI.
Kanroo has no AI features and sends no workspace content to AI providers. If your team decides to use an AI agent, a person connects it through MCP, with a personal API key and a scope they choose.
- Nothing to switch off: there is no AI runtime in Kanroo.
- API keys are personal, scoped and can expire.
- With single sign-on, your organization sets a policy for personal API keys.
Questions and answers
Which certifications cover Kanroo Cloud?
Kanroo Cloud runs on infrastructure from netcup and Scaleway, both certified to ISO/IEC 27001. The Trust page shows the certificate scopes and our own measures, and the data processing agreement names every sub-processor.
Does Kanroo conform to WCAG 2.2 AA?
We do not claim conformance, because there has been no external audit yet. Kanroo is designed for keyboard and screen-reader use, and we fix the barriers that people report.
Can we run Kanroo in our own data center?
Yes. The open-source core runs with Docker Compose and PostgreSQL on your servers, without plan limits. You need an SMTP server for sign-in codes.
Are there special terms for education and non-profits?
Yes, on request. Schools, universities, associations, foundations and other non-profits can get special terms for Enterprise. Write to us through the contact form and tell us about your organization.
Other use cases
- Service deskPublic forms and email create tasks. Labels sort them, a public board shows the status, and the wiki answers common questions.
- AgenciesOne board per client project, one wiki space per client, and read-only links that keep each client in the loop.
- Software teamsReleases and bugs on boards, specs in the wiki, and your coding agent connected through MCP. REST API and webhooks for the rest.
