Keyboard

Every core workflow works from the keyboard.

Move between boards, the wiki and search without the mouse. Shift? shows every shortcut for the screen you are on.

  • Shortcuts with Shift

    Most shortcuts are Shift plus one letter, so they rarely clash with typing in a field.

  • Mod means your system

    Mod is Cmd on macOS and Ctrl on Windows and Linux.

  • Esc is safe

    Esc closes a drawer without changes. With unsaved changes, press Esc twice to discard them.

No dragging needed

A move menu next to every drag.

Drag and drop is quick with a mouse, and hard with a keyboard, a switch or a screen reader. So every move has a menu too.

  • Move tasks

    Move a task to another list or position from its menu. See how to create and move a task.

  • Reorder lists

    Change the order of lists from the list menu.

  • Change dates

    Set the due date in the task. Dragging on the calendar is only a shortcut.

Seeing and reading

Built to be seen, heard and read.

These rules are part of our style guide. We build new screens against them.

  • Visible focus

    A clear ring shows where you are, on every control.

  • Contrast and color

    Readable contrast in the light and the dark theme. Color never carries meaning alone.

  • Names for screen readers

    Icon buttons have names, menus say if they are open, and some changes are announced.

  • Less motion

    Kanroo follows the reduced-motion setting of your system.

  • Touch targets

    Controls are at least 44 by 44 pixels on touch screens.

  • Checked in code

    Accessibility lint rules run on the source code, so common mistakes are caught before review.

What we have not done yet

  • We have not published a formal WCAG audit or an accessibility statement yet.
  • We have not tested every screen with every screen reader. Drag and drop may not be announced everywhere; the move menu does the same job.
