Create a task
GuideUpdated
On this page
A task is one card on a board. Each task gets a key from the board prefix and a number, such as
WR-28. The key never changes, so links to it keep working.
Open the task form
- Choose New task in the board header (box 1), or press Shift+N. The task goes into the first list.
- Or choose + in the header of a list (box 2). The task goes into that list.
On Home, New task works the same way and adds a board picker.
Fill in the fields
- Title (box 1). Required, up to 256 characters.
- Description (box 2). Formatted text: type / for headings, lists, tables, and callouts. Type @ to mention a teammate, who then gets a notification.
- Target list (box 3). The button beside it switches between the top and the bottom of the list.
- Priority and due date (box 4). Priority is Low, Normal, High, or Urgent. Normal is the default.
- Labels (box 5). Pick one or more. The gear button opens the label settings of the board.
- Assign to me (box 6) makes you the assignee at once.
- Choose Create task (box 7). Turn on Create another first to add several tasks in a row.
Add more in the task page
Select a card to open the task page. Every change saves on its own.
- Repeat (box 1) makes the task come back, for example every week. See Repeat a task.
- Assignees (box 2). Add as many people as you need. They must be able to open the board.
- Add checklist (box 3). A task can have several checklists. Their progress shows on the card, such as 2/4.
- Choose files (box 4), or drop files on the Attachments area.
- Comment (box 5). Comments support the same formatting and mentions as the description.
- Follow (box 6). Followers get notifications about the task without being assigned.
Tips
- In a description, Insert › Link task or Link page adds a link that always shows the current title.
- Duplicate task in the task actions (Shift+A) copies the description, priority, due date, labels, and checklists.
- Drag a card to another list to move it. Or use Move to in the card menu (right-click the card).
